Reach supports parents and their children
to ensure adequate nutrition
Our oral motor and feeding specialist support parents and their children to ensure adequate nutrition. This often starts with learning how to create supportive and positive eating and drinking experiences to improve the child’s overall mealtime routine and create positive associations with food.
As a team, the therapists and families develop very specific strategies to make the entire process of eating easier and more enjoyable for the whole family. We’ll work together to decide which foods to introduce or what meal rules to set up. Therapists provide feedback and advice about ways to incorporate new foods, and the best practices for your child’s specific needs.
Therapists may also work with patients to help them gain independence in self-feeding by teaching skills like drinking from a cup, eating with a spoon or fork, or drinking from a straw. The goal of feeding therapy is to ensure that children develop safe, happy, and healthy eating and feeding skills, so that they can safely enjoy mealtimes with their families.
Not every sign of feeding issues is obvious. Sometimes these issues can affect a child’s ability to eat safely, meet nutritional needs or enjoy the mealtime experience.

Reach Success Stories
A friend referred me to Reach for the Top when my son was 10 months old and still unable to eat or drink, surviving solely on breastmilk. As a mother of two, I have never felt so helpless as I did then when I realized I did not know how to take care of my baby. Amy was eager to help and fit us into her already busy schedule. Amy’s expertise, knowledge, skillset and wholehearted investment guided the rest of my son’s treatment team and ultimately spared him from requiring the feeding tube that his doctors had once felt he would need. Moreover, with her determination, persistence and skilled communication she taught me how to get my son to eat and drink. In doing so, she not only changed my son’s life but she restored my confidence as a mother by empowering me with the knowledge and skills to care for my child. Thanks to Amy, my son is now growing, thriving, happy and eating well! My family and I are forever grateful to Amy and the amazing team at Reach for the Top!
